Every year a panel of judges from a cross section of Government, industry leaders and the start-up community select Federal programs that are driving innovation and results in health IT. The 6th annual FedHealthIT Innovation Awards and Networking Event was held on March 24, 2020 at the Carnegie Institute for Science in Washington, DC.

Spin Systems (SpinSys) is excited to announce being selected as a winner of the 2020 FedHealthIT Innovation Award. This award recognizes SpinSys, the Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC), and the Defense Health Agency (DHA) / Enterprise Intelligence and Data Solutions (EIDS) for the Agile Core Services Data Access Layer (ACS DAL) program.

SpinSys has been a key contributor in the development of ACS DAL since its inception with guidance and leadership from the Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) and the Defense Health Agency (DHA). Agile Core Services Data Access Layer (ACS DAL).

ACS DAL is a centralized data integration platform for flexible, efficient, repeatable, and reliable transfer of health service messages across DHA’s healthcare systems developed to solve data integration challenges between external and internal systems.ACS DAL has improved data integration across sources from within the Department of Defense (DoD) and from community healthcare providers leading to the empowerment of providers and ultimately more intelligent healthcare for the Warfighter and their families ACS DAL is able to generate clear and actionable data from a variety of data sources.

ACS DAL has addressed data interoperability challenges by pursuing a software delivery approach that maximizes portability and emphasizes iterative development, enforcing Agile and DevOps principles. With increased interoperability and standardization of data, DHA data scientists can use data to train and run predictive models with the intent of gaining meaningful insights, leading toward intelligent clinical workflows. Timely access to data and tooling significantly reduces the time to treatment.

Today, the ACS DAL platform provides a single architecture for the transfer of over 150,000 messages daily supporting Medical Readiness and Reporting Systems (MRRS), Periodic Health Assessments (PHA), Defense Readiness Health Assessment (DRHA), Defense Medical Information Exchange (DMIX), and numerous Centers of Excellence (CoE) such as NICoE and HCoE.
